Science Camp Week 2: Fun with Physics
Time: 9:00am-3:00pm
Mon-Fri, July 5-9: Students will begin the week learning about amusement park physics. They will learn about the force behind what makes roller coasters move and have the chance to build their own. Students will also investigate gravity through a series of hands on experiments and the famous “egg drop” activity. Students are asked to construct some type of container that will keep a raw egg from cracking when dropped from ever-increasing elevations. Students will explore aerodynamics through paper airplanes and model planes. Students will understand how and why airplanes work. Science Camp Week 3: Fun with the Environment
Time: 9:00am-3:00pm
Mon-Fri, July 12-16: Students will explore solar power, wind power, and hydropower. Students will learn about alternative energy by conducting experiments and building energy-related models. Some projects include the power house itself, a greenhouse, a solar cell array, a solar oven, and a wind power generator. The projects emphasize important concepts such as heat transfer, active and passive solar energy, power storage, and converting mechanical energy into electrical energy.
