Seniors Receive Honors on Recognition Night

Twenty-one members of the Maimonides School Class of 2007 received special academic, service and character awards at the school’s annual Senior Recognition Night Wednesday, June 13.

The most prestigious prize, the Faculty Award, was presented to Abigail Vishniavsky, daughter of Nahum and Ruth Vishniavsky of Newton. She also received the P’TACH Award.

In Judaic Studies, the recipients and their areas of academic recognition were: Noam Hassenfeld, Chumash; Debra Katz and Jacob Warren, Navi; David Roth, Talmud; and Joshua Stein, Hebrew Language. General Studies winners were Meirav Gebler, French; David Gurevich, science; Noam Hassenfeld, history; Elana Kesselman, English; Joseph Mitchneck, mathematics; and Aliza Petrack, Spanish.

The Ahavat Yisrael Award went to Shoshana Blechner and Shoshana Spellman, while the Midot Award was accepted by Emma Brandt and Bela Lawless. The Chesed Award, sponsored by Levine Chapel, was presented to Helene Weiner and Margaret Wyschogrod. Student Council Co-Presidents, Rachel Epstein and Jonathan Miller accepted the Student Leadership Award, named in memory of Ezra Lightman ’65,z”l.

Elana Adler and Melody Michaelson received the award for achievement in the arts, endowed almost 20 years ago by anonymous alumni in memory of Rabbi M.J. Cohn, z”l, principal emeritus.

At the Sports Breakfast on June 10, Miss Vishniavsky was announced as female Athlete of the Year and her classmate Shlomo Golshirazian was honored as male Athlete of the Year. Mr. Hassenfeld was cited as male Student-Athlete of the Year. His female counterpart was Miss Blechner, Sean Kennedy (baseball) was honored as coach of the year.
