Israel Connection

Israel is always paramount in the consciousness of Maimonides students, from the first week of kindergarten through graduation day. Our connection as a People to the land is interwoven through the entire curriculum, one of the key factors which defines who we are as a school and distinguishes us as an institution.

Activities and Celebrations
Elementary School students and teachers demonstrate their connection to Israel through a range of special activities. Yom Ha'Atzmaut, Yom HaZikaron and Yom Yerushalayim are observed with imagination and passion, as the school community vicariously shares these important occasions.

Israeli Role Models
Enhancing students’ bond with Israel in the Elementary School is constant interaction with Israeli role models. This includes several teachers as well as two shlichot tz'hirot—young women who spend a year in Boston sharing their knowledge of Israel in elementary schools and establishing a chapter of the Bnei Akiva religious Zionist youth organization. Their daily presence brings the reality of Israel directly and vividly to each student.

Hebrew Language
Hebrew language instruction also provides a backdrop for experiencing Israel in an authentic way. Our talented Ivrit staff prepare a Yom Ha-Atzma'ut program, hold a memorial service for Yom HaZikaron, and bring the spirit of Eretz Yisrael into our classrooms every day.

The connection that our students have with Israel further matures throughout their Middle and Upper School years, so much so that three-quarters of Maimonides’ graduating seniors defer their college matriculation each year to spend time learning in Israeli institutions.

Over 150 Maimonides School alumni have become citizens of Israel. They are physicians, engineers, teachers, businesspersons, political activists, even professional athletes. Through their continuing loyalty to and affection for Maimonides, these graduates are an invaluable resource for our students and teachers.
